They grow abundantly in forests and fields, making them a common sight for avid collectors. The common mushroom, a coveted ingredient in many kitchens. However, once found, doubts may arise about its true nature. Is it edible, toxic, or even hallucinogenic? A mushroom identification manual would be helpful in these situations. Unfortunately, carrying around a bulky book while exploring the undergrowth is not ideal.
NATURE MOBILE has developed an app called Mushrooms PRO that is designed to assist smartphone users in identifying and collecting mushrooms. With over 300 species and more than 2000 high-resolution images, this app is a comprehensive resource that is easily accessible. Each mushroom comes with a detailed description and a selection of images from different perspectives and stages of growth. The content of the app has been compiled by Dr. GERHARDT, a renowned mycologist and author of numerous mushroom books and scientific publications. Dr. GERHARDT has been a valued employee and consultant in the field of Mycology at the Botanical Gardens and Botanical Museum of Berlin.
So how does one identify a mushroom?
The app allows users to narrow down the list of potential mushroom species by selecting various visual and characteristic features.
The app also includes a picture quiz feature that serves as a personal trainer. Whether you are trying to identify a Polyporus Brumalis, Echinoderma Asperum, or Armillaria Ostoyae, the quiz will test your knowledge. Even if you answer incorrectly, you have two more chances to try before moving on. Your score can be posted on the high score board for some friendly competition.
One concern might be the lack of internet connection when exploring nature. However, this app only requires connectivity during initial installation and for updates, allowing you to make effective use of all its features offline.
The app is available in German, English, French, and Spanish, and species names can be accessed in other languages through the LITE version.
The app allows species to be searched and identified based on various criteria, such as appearance, scent, edibility, taste, fruit body type, habitat, family, and medicinal benefits or poisons.
Step-by-step identification questions will lead you to the species you have discovered. The process is designed to be user-friendly and has been carefully developed by Dr. Gerhardt, a member of the German Mycological Society.
